Ministry
Shaughnessy Heights United Church has
a long tradition of youth involvement in leadership
and group life — grounding its understanding of
youth on Jesus’ call of the disciples. Youth are
in the streets and the neighborhoods just waiting to
be noticed and called into the service of others. At
SHUC they find a special meeting place in the "Youth
Centre" — a special place to feel the presence
of Christian community in their lives. The Youth Ministry
is two fold: inreach and outreach.

Youth
Groups: Reaching In
Sharing laughter, games, personal
stories and being challenged by God’s Word are
the elements of the three main programs
Bible Quest meets Sunday
Morning within the worship hour (10:00-11:00 a.m.).
Youth probe deep into the bible and discover the way
God can speak directly to one’s life. These classes
are lead by James Fraser, Gayle Ansley, and Jim Cryder
"SHOCK" —
Shaughnessey Heights Outrageous Christian Kids
— is for 10 — 12 year-olds (Grades 5-6-7)
and meets every Tuesday 7:00 —9:00 p.m. for games,
snacks and exploring faith issues. They also participate
in group outings such as: bowling, go-carting, swimming
and movies. SHOCK’s leader is Cathy Cryder. Contact

Senior Youth Group, Thursdays
7:15 p.m.- 9:15 p.m. in the Youth Centre of SHUC. The
Senior Youth Group is a group full of buzz and a love
for being together as youth. Whether you want to crank
it up, pause to pray your worries, or just chill out
you will find a home for yourself here. Leaders Ross

Youth
in Action: Reaching Out
Youth are encouraged to get involved in
out-reach activities. They make sandwiches for those
who are hungry in order to deepen their understanding
of the issues of poverty. They serve as leaders to underprivileged
children at camp, and they learn to lead with kindness
and care at SHUCÕs annual Vacation Bible School. Youth
regularly serve the congregation by reaching out to
the community in many ways, including distributing flyers
and selling hot dogs at community events. Youth will
welcome your involvement here.
