Council Structure 2002-2003

The Council of Shaughnessy Heights United Church exists to implement the mission of the local church, strengthen its bonds with the larger church, and enable governance of SHUC so it can function smoothly and effectively. The Council is elected by the SHUC membership. Congregational input is encouraged and received from individuals or through annual retreats, cottage meetings held in members’ homes, reports from committees, personal contacts, telephone and email.

SHUC Council is composed of elected officers, committee chairpersons, presbytery representatives and staff. Elections are held in June. Except for the summer months, meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month. Special meetings may also be held at the call of the chair.

The Council Planning Group (CPG) is composed of the Lead Minister, Council Chairperson, Vice Chairperson for Mission Development, and Vice Chairperson for Mission Resources. The CPG strives for effective planning of Council meetings by ensuring that all important issues are effectively brought to the table. The CPG members also assist and support the committees in their work.

The Lead Minister serves as the staff liaison with the Council and as the primary staff resource for Celebrating and Caring Ministries — Worship, Congregational Life, and Pastoral Care. The Minister for Youth/Young Adult and Leadership Development serves as the primary resource for the Ministries of Outreach and Communication. The Minister for Children and Family Ministries serves as the primary resource for Christian Education. All Ministers work with the Mission Resources areas of Finance, Operations, Nominations, and Ministry and Personnel as needed.
